Remove objects from images locally on Windows — free, no upload

FrameShift removes unwanted objects from photos using LaMa inpainting AI running entirely on your machine. Paint a mask over the object, click Apply — the AI reconstructs the background behind it. No upload, no account, no subscription. The cleaned image appears next to the source.

Two models — quality or speed

Quality

LaMa FP32

Full-precision LaMa model for the highest reconstruction quality. Best for images where the background texture needs to be reconstructed accurately. 208 MB, downloaded on first use.

Fast

LaMa 2025

Optimized 2025 variant for faster processing with lower memory usage. Great for quick edits where speed matters more than the finest detail. 93 MB, downloaded on first use.

Why remove objects locally?

No upload, complete privacy

Photoshop Generative Fill, Canva Magic Eraser and online tools upload your photos to remote servers. FrameShift processes everything locally — your images never leave your disk.

Free, no subscription

No Adobe Creative Cloud, no Canva Pro, no per-image charge. FrameShift is open source and completely free with no usage limits.

Works offline

Once the LaMa model is downloaded, object removal works entirely without internet. Ideal for sensitive photos or offline environments.

Visual brush editor

A dedicated canvas editor opens for each image. Paint the mask with a brush, adjust brush size for precision, and preview the result before saving.

GPU accelerated

ONNX Runtime with DirectML runs LaMa on the GPU when available, with automatic CPU fallback for any machine.

Non-destructive output

The cleaned image is saved as a new PNG next to the source. The original photo is never modified.

How it works

  1. Right-click an image in Windows Explorer and choose FrameShift → Remove Object.

  2. The visual editor opens — your image is displayed on a canvas. Choose your model (Quality or Fast) and brush size.

  3. Paint over the object you want to remove. The mask is shown in red. Use a larger brush for big objects, a smaller one for edges.

  4. Click Apply — LaMa processes the masked region and reconstructs the background texture.

  5. The cleaned PNG is saved next to the source with a unique name. The original is never touched.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove objects from photos for free on Windows without uploading?

Yes. FrameShift removes objects from images locally on Windows using LaMa inpainting AI. It is completely free, requires no upload, no account and no internet connection after the model is downloaded once.

What AI model does FrameShift use for object removal?

FrameShift uses LaMa (Large Mask inpainting) ONNX models. Two models are available: LaMa FP32 for Quality (208 MB, highest accuracy) and LaMa 2025 for Fast (93 MB, optimized for speed).

How do I select the object I want to remove?

FrameShift opens a visual canvas editor where you paint a mask over the object using a brush. Adjust the brush size for precision. Click Apply and the AI reconstructs the background behind the masked area.

Does object removal require a GPU?

No. LaMa runs via ONNX Runtime and works on any Windows 10/11 machine. GPU acceleration via DirectML is used when available, with automatic CPU fallback.

What types of objects can it remove well?

LaMa works best on objects against relatively uniform or repeating backgrounds — watermarks, logos, people on grass or sand, objects on solid walls, signs, power lines. Very complex or large objects on highly detailed backgrounds may require cleanup.

How does FrameShift compare to Photoshop Generative Fill or Canva Magic Eraser?

Photoshop Generative Fill and Canva Magic Eraser use cloud AI and require subscriptions. FrameShift runs entirely locally for free. For clean, relatively uniform backgrounds, LaMa produces excellent results at zero cost and with complete privacy.
